Spare Time Wins Award at Texas Workforce Conference
BELL COUNTY – Workforce Solutions of Central Texas is proud to recognize Spare Time as the region’s 2024 Local Employer of Excellence. Spare Time accepted the award at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 27th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Dec. 4 – Dec. 6, 2024, in Grapevine. Local Workforce Development Boards nominate employers who make a positive impact on workers, the community, and the state through their partnerships with Texas Workforce Solutions.
Since its opening in April 2013, Spare Time Texas has become a cornerstone of joy and community in Temple. Offering bowling, laser tag, an expansive arcade, and a full-service restaurant, it’s more than an entertainment destination—it’s a hub for fostering connection and inclusivity. Spare Time Texas has set a gold standard by uniting families and friends through memorable experiences.
Their commitment to inclusivity extends beyond recreation, as they champion opportunities for students with disabilities. Partnering with Workforce Solutions of Central Texas and Vocational Rehabilitation Services, they’ve created mentorship programs and provided long-term job opportunities, including for participants in the Summer Earn and Learn (SEAL) initiative. By hosting an end-of-summer celebration for SEAL participants and hiring several students, they continue to inspire others to embrace diversity and community impact.
“Our Texas workforce system continues to create career pathways in both existing and emerging industries across our great state of Texas,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “TWC celebrates the collaboration between businesses and working Texans as the foundation of the state’s economic prosperity.”
Workforce Solutions of Central Texas also nominated Revol Greens, which was recognized as a finalist of the Small Employer of the Year Award.
Revol Greens, North America’s largest lettuce greenhouse grower, is driving workforce and economic development in Central Texas. At its 20-acre facility in Temple, the company produces up to 24,000 pounds of lettuce daily while creating jobs and fostering growth. Partnering with Workforce Solutions of Central Texas (WSCT), Revol Greens recruits a diverse workforce, including veterans, individuals with disabilities, and limited English speakers, and equips them with specialized training funded by grants like WIOA and NDW.
Beyond workforce development, Revol Greens prioritizes sustainability, using 90% less water than traditional farming methods and supplying fresh produce to major retailers like Walmart and H-E-B. The company’s collaborations with WSCT and local educational institutions further enhance economic growth by offering English as a Second Language courses and career advancement opportunities. With innovative training programs, sustainable practices, and community engagement, Revol Greens exemplifies a model for economic and environmental success in Central Texas.
