Workforce Solutions of Central Texas stands ready to support TANF participants and applicants in wake of reinstated HHSC requirements
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Workforce Commission has announced that Texas residents utilizing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits must now also participate in the Choices services. This requirement, which was temporarily discontinued due to the pandemic, will be reinstated on August 1, 2021, by the Health and Human Services Commission. HHSC will also now require TANF applicants to attend a Workforce Orientation of Applicants (WOA) before determining eligibility for TANF benefits.
Workforce Solutions of Central Texas career services professionals will hold orientations in the Killeen and Temple centers, and are ready to provide a variety of services to those who need assistance in these difficult times.
“Here at the centers, we can help provide TANF applicants with so many resources, and the workforce orientations are only the beginning. There is something for everyone here,” said Cara Williams, Operations Manager, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas.
Some of the general services provided by Workforce Solutions include employment and childcare assistance, special programs for skills development, and support for Veteran job seekers. Those who are currently receiving TANF benefits can get even more support from the Choices program with things such as childcare, transportation, work-related expenses, short-term training, employment incentives and so much more.
“If you are receiving TANF benefits, or you know someone who is, then the Choices program has even more to offer you. We really encourage people to come see us so that we can find out which of our employment or support services can help make their lives a little easier,” said Williams. “We know that this pandemic has put a tremendous strain on our Texas communities and we are here to help people come back from these difficult times,” she added.
