Torch Awards Honor Region’s Workforce Achievements
CENTRAL TEXAS — Twenty-two individuals, businesses, and community organizations from a seven county area will be honored at the Workforce Solutions of Central Texas 34th Annual Torch Awards Luncheon, being held at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center on Friday, October 28, 2022. This annual event is expected to engage an audience of more than 400 people from across the State.
In the Calendar Year 2021, we provided 15,448 services assisting more than 2,115 Central Texas employers. We also provided 134,302 employment and training services for 18,205 local job seekers. Recognizing the unique needs of out-of-school youth, we connected 156 young adults with work experiences and education opportunities. For low-income working families, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas supported an average of more than 2,379 children per day in child care.
Awards will be presented in multiple categories. One category is the Torch Bearer Award, which recognizes outstanding individuals who worked diligently to gain skills, find employment, and keep a job. Employer of the Year Awards will be given to General Motors, MooreCo, Inc., Yahweh’s Learning Center, and Love and Learning Center of Milam County. They were selected based off their involvement with Workforce System Services and their outstanding benefits, stability, and wages.
Another highlight of the event will be the presentation of the prestigious Leadership Award. Milam County Judge Steve Young will be receiving this award.
